Marvel Rivals Infinity War Mode: The Complete Duo Guide
The Marvel Rivals Infinity War mode starts the way the film's third act does: in a jungle in Wakanda, with not quite enough people on your side. You and one partner lock in, the match assigns your squad a single Infinity Stone at random, and each of the other five pairs in the lobby gets one too. Nobody on the map is your teammate except the person on voice chat.
Officially it is called Path to Doomsday - Avengers: Infinity War, an Event Game Mode running from October 9, 2026 at 09:00 UTC to December 11, 2026 at 09:00 UTC, per the official Season 10.5 patch notes. Six squads of two fight a series of duels, losing squads bleed points until they are knocked out, and every elimination passes the loser's Stones to whoever beat them. The last squad standing ends the match holding all six.
This guide is built from those official patch notes and the mode's page on the Marvel Rivals Wiki, both re-read on October 21, 2026: the 13 heroes you can actually pick, what each Stone does at both power levels, the ability changes made for this mode, the card system, and the missions. There is also a section on choosing a duo, which is clearly marked as opinion, because the wiki publishes rules, not results.
The Mode at a Glance
Name: Path to Doomsday - Avengers: Infinity War.
Type: Event Game Mode, PvP.
Dates: October 9, 2026, 09:00 UTC to December 11, 2026, 09:00 UTC. That is the official "Mode Period" in the Version 20261009 patch notes, and the wiki's countdown matches it. The mode outlasts Season 10 itself, which ends November 13.
Format: Six teams of two players. The official patch notes put it as "12 players will form 6 duo squads and battle for control over the Infinity Stones", with two squads facing off head-to-head each round and "the first squad to collect all 6 Infinity Stones" winning.
Map: Jungle of Wakanda, a new map built for this mode and inspired by the plains and jungles of Wakanda from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The wiki notes it is the eighth event-specific map added to the game, and that the burning savanna in the background suggests the Battle of Wakanda from the film. Its labelled points of interest are a spawn point, a common area, dueling grounds, a central kiosk and a health pack.
Heroes: 13 playable heroes, listed in full below.
Team-ups: None. The wiki states plainly that no team-up abilities are available in this mode.
Duplicates: No duplicate heroes are allowed per team, so you and your partner cannot both pick the same hero.
All 13 Playable Heroes, by Role
The Marvel Rivals Infinity War mode uses a fixed pool of 13 heroes rather than the full roster. Here they are, grouped the way the wiki groups them.
Vanguard (4): Captain America, Doctor Strange, Groot, Thor.
Duelist (7): Black Panther, Black Widow, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Winter Soldier.
Strategist (2): Mantis, Rocket Raccoon.
The theme is easy to spot: these are the characters who appear in the Avengers: Infinity War film. The balance is not even, though. Seven of the thirteen are Duelists, and there are only two Strategists, both of whose healing kits are reworked for this mode (more on that in the tweaks section). In practice, every duo is choosing from a pool heavy on damage.
Also worth remembering if you have not played her since early September: Scarlet Witch received a moveset rework in Season 10, per the wiki's season page. If your muscle memory for her is from before September 11, it is out of date before the mode-specific changes even apply.
How a Match Plays Out, Round by Round
The wiki breaks the loop into four stages. Understanding it is most of the battle, because it is nothing like a normal 6v6.
1. Start. Six squads join and each is randomly assigned one of the six Infinity Stones. Then you pick heroes.
2. Preparation. At the start of every round, all teams pick Enhancement cards that boost stats and abilities. This phase lasts 50 seconds, or ends sooner once the last player has finished picking.
3. Combat and settlement. Squads are paired off and sent to independent battlefields to fight. Combat lasts one minute. If at least one member of each squad is still standing when time runs out, Overtime begins and players gradually lose health until there is a winner. The losing squad has some of its Infinity Stone Link Value deducted, which is the wiki's term for a squad's HP across the whole match.
If an odd number of squads is still alive, one squad gets a bye that round. It does not fight, and both its Link Value and its Stones stay exactly as they were.
4. Victory and defeat. A squad is eliminated when its Link Value hits 0, and every Stone it was holding transfers to the squad that beat it. Eliminated squads, and squads that have finished their fight for the round, can spectate other battlefields. Rounds continue until one squad remains, collects all six Stones and wins.
The Stones themselves are inert at first. From Round 4 they awaken and every team can use their base effects. From Round 7 they fully awaken and the enhanced effects replace the base ones. So the early rounds are pure hero-versus-hero duels, and the match changes character twice.
The Six Infinity Stones, Base and Enhanced
Each Stone has a base effect (Round 4 onward) and an enhanced effect (Round 7 onward). When a squad holds more than one Stone, it can switch between them. These descriptions follow the wiki's wording closely; the wiki does not give damage numbers or durations beyond what is quoted, and neither does this page.
Power Stone. Base: fire a continuous energy beam that deals damage equal to a percentage of the target's Maximum Health. Enhanced: the same beam, and sustained hits also apply Control to the target.
Space Stone. Base: teleport in a chosen direction while gaining a Damage Boost and Bonus Health; can be cast multiple times. Enhanced: the same, plus you can target an enemy to teleport behind them.
Time Stone. Base: rewind yourself to your state and position from 5 seconds ago. Stone abilities you have already used are not reset. Enhanced: rewind the entire battlefield 5 seconds, which can revive characters. Used Stone abilities are still not reset.
Reality Stone. Base: designate an area; after a short delay, enemy attacks inside it are transformed into bubbles. Enhanced: designate an area; after a short delay, the enemies themselves are Transformed.
Mind Stone. Base: fire a psychic beam; sustained hits let you mind control an enemy, and while you do, you can use the base effect of the Stone that enemy has equipped. Enhanced: the same, but you get the enhanced effect of their Stone.
Soul Stone. Base: sacrifice half your Maximum Health to fully restore your teammate's Health, always keeping at least 1 Health yourself. Enhanced: sacrifice your Health to fully heal your ally and give them Bonus Health equal to your current Health, transfer your basic bonus attributes to them, and then enter Soul State. Limited to 1 use per round.
A note on reading these. Several of them are only as good as your partner's position. Soul Stone is useless if your teammate is already dead, and the enhanced Time Stone is the only one that the wiki says can bring characters back. Because you start with a random Stone, the first few rounds are also a chance to think about which one you would most like to take from an opponent.
Ability Tweaks Made for This Mode
The wiki lists these changes for the Infinity War mode only. Outside it, these heroes play as normal.
All heroes: gain the Infinity Stone abilities described above. No team-ups.
Black Panther: Bast's Descent grants damage reduction while being summoned.
Black Widow: Edge Dancer no longer stuns on the second kick.
Doctor Strange: Pentagram of Farallah is removed.
Iron Man: Armor Overdrive's duration increases when he participates in an elimination.
Mantis: Soul Resurgence and Healing Flower grant Bonus Health instead of healing, and Healing Flower can land critical hits. Her Nature's Favor passive no longer gives her Healing Over Time when she consumes Life Orbs.
Rocket Raccoon: Repair Mode orbs no longer heal allies and instead deal continuous damage to nearby enemies. B.R.B. no longer revives allies; it pulses damage to nearby enemies and increases the primary-weapon damage of nearby allies.
Scarlet Witch: Dark Seal's force fields deal damage over time to enemies inside them. Her Chaos Mark passive deals a percentage of the damage inflicted on a marked enemy when the mark expires.
Spider-Man: Web-Swing's maximum charges are reduced to 1.
Thor: Lightning Realm also deals continuous damage to enemies inside its area.
The pattern is readable. The two Strategists are pushed away from healing and toward damage or Bonus Health, which suits a mode where revives would drag out a one-minute duel. The removal of Pentagram of Farallah and the cut to Spider-Man's Web-Swing charges both take away some escape and mobility. Several damage-over-time additions reward staying in a fight rather than poking from range.
Enhancement Cards: Prismatic, Advanced, Common, Universal
Before every round you draw Enhancements from a random pool. You get a fixed number of basic draws each round, some rounds offer extra chances at special cards, and you can spend Refresh tokens to reroll a batch. Refresh tokens refill at the start of each round. The wiki lists four card types.
Prismatic. The same for every hero and considerably stronger than the other types. You pick two before Rounds 3, 7, 9 and 11.
Advanced. Specific to each hero, giving significant upgrades and extra effects to their abilities. You pick two before Rounds 1, 5, 9 and 11. If a hero runs out of Advanced options, Universal or Common cards are offered instead.
Common. Also hero-specific; they slightly improve base abilities and upgrades you already took from Advanced cards.
Universal. The same for every hero and improve general stats.
Notice that Round 7 is both the round the Stones reach their enhanced form and a Prismatic pick, and Rounds 9 and 11 offer both Prismatic and Advanced picks. Those are the rounds where a squad's power jumps. The wiki does not list individual card effects, so this guide does not either.
Picking a Duo From the 13 (Editor's Opinion)
Everything in this section is opinion, reasoned from the rules above and from the difficulty ratings in our roster data, which come from the Marvel Rivals Wiki's 1-to-5 star rating for each hero. It is not measured from match results, and the wiki publishes none.
Think in pairs, not picks. In a normal match your choice is one slot of six. Here it is half the team, and there are no team-ups to lean on. The useful question is what the two of you cover together: who takes the hits, who finishes kills, and what happens when one of you goes down in a one-minute duel with nobody else to help.
A Vanguard plus a Duelist is the natural starting point. With only two Strategists in the pool, and both of them reworked away from healing, most duos will be some mix of tank and damage. Thor and Groot both gain or keep area pressure in this mode (Thor's Lightning Realm now deals damage), which pairs well with a Duelist who wants enemies held in one place. Captain America and Doctor Strange lose nothing big except Strange's Pentagram, but neither is built to win a long solo fight alone.
Rocket and Mantis are different heroes here. Rocket's beacon and orbs now hurt enemies and buff allied weapon damage, so in this mode he reads more like a support-flavoured damage dealer. Mantis turns healing into Bonus Health and can crit with Healing Flower. If you usually main either one, expect to relearn them.
Mind the difficulty. The Marvel Rivals Wiki rates Black Panther and Black Widow 4 out of 5 for difficulty and Spider-Man 5 out of 5, which our roster data labels Hard, and Spider-Man has also lost a Web-Swing charge here. In a mode with no backup, a hard hero you have not practised is a bigger risk than usual. Scarlet Witch and Rocket Raccoon are both rated 1 out of 5 (Easy).
Do not both chase the same Stone plan. Since the Stones you hold change as you eliminate squads, have a quick agreement about who uses which one when you hold several. The Soul Stone in particular only works if one of you is willing to spend health on the other.
If you cannot decide, let something else decide. Our marvel rivals hero randomizer rolls from the full 54-hero roster, not just this mode's 13, so just reroll anything that is not in the list above, or use its ban grid to switch off the heroes you do not want. The marvel rivals team randomizer does the same for a whole group if your friends are splitting into several duos. For how each role is meant to work in general, see marvel rivals roles explained.
Event Missions and What They Pay
The mode has its own mission list on the wiki, and the rewards are cosmetic or currency.
Complete 1 match in the mode: 100 Unstable Molecules.
Complete 5 matches: 200 Units.
Purchase 50 upgrades: the Avengers: Infinity War spray.
Use 30 Stone abilities: the Stone Guardian title.
Take 10 Stones from other teams: the Infinity Gauntlet accessory (Epic).
The Gauntlet has a small detail the wiki records as trivia: if you equip it while playing this mode, it only shows the Infinity Stones your team is currently holding. The same trivia section suggests the Stone Guardian title may nod to Red Skull, who guards the Soul Stone on Vormir in the film, while noting there is no direct mention of him.
There is a second set of tie-ins outside the mode, under the Path to Doomsday series page's Times Square Events. Watching two minutes of the Avengers: Infinity War Highlights Screening unlocks the Avengers: Infinity War Gallery Card. Taking a group photo with the NPCs at the iconic scene photo wall outside the Avengers' Gift Shop gives 100 Units and the Avengers Emblem spray.
The Times Square tie-ins have a shorter window than the mode: the official patch notes list them from October 9 to October 22, 2026, 09:00 UTC.
The Infinity Finale Event Pass, which also started on October 9, runs alongside the mode with film-themed costumes, including Black Panther's Avengers: Infinity War costume on its Premium track; its free reward is Thor's The Avengers costume. The official notes give its period as October 9 to December 10, 2026, 09:00 UTC, one day earlier than the mode, while the wiki's countdown for the pass says December 11. We use the official date. The same patch also put an Infinity Gauntlet accessory in the store, separate from the one this mode's missions award.
Where This Fits in Path to Doomsday
Infinity War is the third phase of Path to Doomsday, a multi-season event series that the wiki says is building toward Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday film in December 2026. The wiki lists the phases like this:
Phase 1 (Season 7, April 30 to May 28, 2026): the Path to Doomsday: The Avengers event game mode.
Phase 2 (Season 9, July 30 to August 27, 2026): Avengers: Age of Ultron, a PvE event game mode.
Phase 3 (Season 10.5, October 9 to December 11, 2026): Avengers: Infinity War, the 2v2v2v2v2v2 PvP mode covered on this page.
Phase 4 (Season 10.5): Avengers: Endgame. The official Version 20261022 patch notes (posted October 21, 2026) set its event period as October 22, 2026, 09:00 UTC to November 26, 2026, 09:00 UTC, with Captain America's Captain America: The Winter Soldier costume as a free reward. The mode itself officially starts on October 24 (UTC) and runs for 4 consecutive weeks, open only at limited times each week; the official post lists three sessions on October 24: 01:00 to 03:00, 10:00 to 12:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 UTC. The same post sets up the story: Thanos from the past has breached the timeline, leading his forces to tear the cosmos apart and forge it anew, and with the restored timeline hanging in the balance, the heroes have no choice but to fight. A Times Square - Avengers: Endgame event runs over the same dates: watching the Avengers: Endgame highlights screening in Times Square for two minutes continuously unlocks the Gallery Card - Avengers: Endgame, and a group photo with the NPCs at the photo walls outside the Avengers' Gift Shop earns 100 Units. The wiki's mode page quotes the official description: "Assemble in the ruins of the Avengers Compound alongside fifty heroes to face Thanos and his overwhelming army head-on in our massive new PvE mode, Path to Doomsday - Avengers: Endgame!" The patch notes do not describe its rules, so this guide does not either. Infinity War keeps running alongside it until December 11.
For the whole of Season 10.5, including both Path to Doomsday modes and the season's other events, see marvel rivals season 10.
The wiki's Season 10 trivia adds some context: when the season was first planned, Gorr was meant to be the last hero of 2026, with development prioritising the Avengers: Doomsday mode. The same trivia says that plan was scrapped at an unknown point, but it shows how central this series is to the studio's year.
For the newest heroes outside this mode's fixed pool, see new marvel rivals characters.
