Black Cat Marvel Rivals Guide: How the Master Thief Plays
Black Cat Marvel Rivals players run a hero that no other Duelist resembles: almost everything Felicia Hardy does either steals or spends a resource called Fortune. She lands a hit, takes Fortune from the enemy, and turns that bank into dashes, cone attacks, extra bonus health or relics bought from a mid-fight shop. Hit, steal, leave is the whole hero in three words.
She is a Duelist, the 49th hero added to the game, and she arrived in Season 7.5 of "The Hunt Is On" alongside a season built around her and White Fox. Her kit is unlike anything else on the damage roster because almost everything she does either earns or spends a resource called Fortune, and a good Black Cat is really a good Fortune accountant.
Every number on this page comes from the per-ability tables on the Marvel Rivals Wiki, read October 2026. Where the wiki's own summary disagrees with its tables, we say so rather than picking whichever figure sounds better.
Profile: Hero Number 49
Per the Marvel Rivals Wiki (read October 2026), Black Cat is Felicia Sara Hardy, listed with the aliases "The Master Thief" and "Cat", born in Queens, New York. In the game she is a Duelist, which matches the role in our own roster file. The wiki numbers her as the 49th hero introduced to the roster, arriving in Season 7.5 of "The Hunt Is On". That season ran from March 20 to May 15, 2026, with the 7.5 half starting on April 17, 2026. White Fox, the 48th hero, had opened the season a month earlier, which is why the two are so often mentioned together.
Her infobox lists 150 health plus a 125 Regenerative Shield and a difficulty of 4 stars. Our own site data rates her Hard to learn and places her in the B tier as community consensus, not as any measured statistic. You can see where that puts her against the other damage picks on the marvel rivals duelist tier list.
The official character description, quoted on the wiki, frames her as one of the world's premier thieves who glides across the battlefield "with swift precision and a dancer's grace" and warns that "her omens never miss their mark". That last line is not just flavor. Her passive, covered below, literally makes enemy critical hits less reliable against her.
One piece of development trivia the wiki records is worth knowing because it explains her design. Miller Ross said on stream that early on she was briefly considered as a Strategist built around buff manipulation, and separately as her New Ultimate universe counterpart. Both ideas were dropped. What shipped is a melee Duelist whose support-like ideas survive only in her relic shop.
Fortune Is the Whole Kit
Most Black Cat Marvel Rivals questions eventually come back to one mechanic, so if you only learn one thing about her, learn this. Fortune is a resource she builds by hitting enemies and spends on her strongest tools. She can hold a maximum of 1,200 Fortune at a time. The passive that generates it is called Sticky Paws, and the wiki's table lists exactly how much each source steals:
- Feline Fury (primary attack): 50 per hit
- Claw Whip: 50 per hit, up to 100
- Phantom Pursuit: 125
- Cat's Cradle: 150
- Claw Strike during Calling Card: 200
- Turn of Fortune: 300
Death is expensive. When she is defeated she loses 50% of her Fortune, with a minimum deduction of 200. That rule shapes her whole playstyle. A Black Cat sitting on 1,000 Fortune who dies to a careless dive has thrown away half her next fight, so holding a large bank is only worth it if you are alive to spend it.
The practical consequence is that her damage numbers on their own look modest, and the wiki's weaknesses section says as much: she "deals little damage without Fortune" and has a high skill ceiling around knowing when to engage and disengage. She is not a hero who wins by trading evenly. She wins by earning cheaply, spending at the right moment, and not dying with a full purse.
Every Ability, as the Wiki Lists It
Feline Fury (primary fire) is a melee claw swipe: 35 damage at 3.5m range, stealing 50 Fortune per hit.
Fortune's Favor (secondary fire) spends Fortune on one of two enhanced attacks. Claw Whip costs 150 Fortune and fires tethered claws in an arc: 65 damage in a 150-degree cone with a 7.5m radius, a 0.6s attack interval, and 25 bonus health per hit up to 50. Phantom Pursuit costs 250 Fortune: a dash of up to 20m that hits for 70 damage and flashes her back to where she started, with a 2s cooldown, during which she gains 50% Damage Reduction and Unstoppable.
Cat's Cradle is a lunge of 15m that slices through enemies in the path for 40 damage, on an 8s cooldown, stealing 150 Fortune.
Turn of Fortune launches a grappling hook: 30 damage, 30m range, 120m/s projectile speed, 5s cooldown. On a hit she gains 50 bonus health and steals 300 Fortune, the single biggest source in her kit.
Thieving Grace is her double jump, and using Cat's Cradle, Turn of Fortune, Phantom Pursuit or Stealthy Catwalk resets it. Stealthy Catwalk lets her hold Jump to climb walls; after she detaches she has to touch the ground before she can climb again. Malkin Misfortune applies Jinx to enemies she hits, giving Jinxed foes a 25% chance to lose their bonus damage when they land a critical hit on her.
Her ultimate, Calling Card, costs 3,100 energy. It marks every enemy on the battlefield, revealing them through walls for her. For 10 seconds she can Pounce to a marked enemy up to 40m away with 50% damage reduction during the dash, then Claw Strike within 8m for a first hit of 30 and a second hit of 70, stealing 200 Fortune. Each takedown adds 3 seconds and refreshes Pounce. The wiki notes the cards stay on enemies even after they respawn, as long as the ultimate is still running.
A note on accuracy: the overview at the top of the wiki's Black Cat page lists a few older figures (for example 300 Fortune for Phantom Pursuit and a 60m Pounce). The detailed ability tables say 250 and 40m, and her Balance Changes page confirms that the Season 10 patch of September 11, 2026 cut Phantom Pursuit's cost from 300 to 250 Fortune, so at least part of the overview predates that patch. We use the tables throughout, but treat any single number as subject to the next balance patch. A guide written before September 11, 2026 will quote some of the older figures.
The Relic Shop Changes What She Can Do Mid-Fight
Gilded Deal is the most unusual ability on any Duelist. In the wiki's words it opens a rift via the Randall Gate so she can barter with the Gilded Saint for relics from the New York Thieves Guild. In practice it is a shop of six items, each bought with Fortune:
- Tablet of Destinies (100 Fortune): gain a random 0, 50, 200 or 500 Fortune. A gamble that can lose you money or more than pay for itself.
- Helm of Hades (200 Fortune): go Invisible for 3 seconds with a 60% movement boost that decays over the duration. Your trail stays visible and you flicker into view periodically, so it is an escape or an approach, not true stealth.
- Faltine Flame Orb (200 Fortune): conjure an orb that reveals and marks nearby enemies within 20m. It has 50 health and you can only have 1 at a time.
- Chernobog's Crystal (300 Fortune): instantly cleanse every active control effect on yourself.
- Ring of Zona (300 Fortune): open a portal on a surface for instant traversal to the other side. It lasts 10 seconds with 1 second between uses.
- Mento-Fish (300 Fortune): a projectile at 30m/s that creates a hypnosis field 5m in radius and 40m tall. Enemies inside are slowed by 35%, Grounded, and lose their movement abilities.
In our reading, the relics are where the cut Strategist idea lives on. Mento-Fish is genuine team-wide crowd control, Faltine Flame Orb is information for everyone, and Ring of Zona creates a route. The trade-off is that every relic costs the same Fortune you would otherwise spend on Phantom Pursuit or Claw Whip, so buying one is always a decision about what you are not doing next.
As before, these are the per-relic table values. The summary at the top of the same wiki page lists lower costs for several relics and a 2-second Helm of Hades; the Season 10 patch raised Helm of Hades from 2 to 3 seconds, per her Balance Changes page, which shows that summary is out of date. Re-check this list after any patch.
One Fortune Cycle, Start to Finish
Reading a list of abilities does not show how they connect, so here is a single engagement walked through in order, using only the mechanics above.
First, she opens from range rather than from melee. Turn of Fortune is the obvious opener because it is her longest reach at 30m, it is her biggest single Fortune source at 300, and a hit hands her 50 bonus health before the fight has properly started. A hit on the first enemy also applies Jinx through Malkin Misfortune, which quietly makes that target's critical hits on her less dependable.
Then she closes the gap with Cat's Cradle. The 15m lunge damages anything in its path and steals another 150 Fortune, and because using it resets Thieving Grace she still has a double jump available for the next few seconds. At this point a clean opening has already put several hundred Fortune in the bank without spending any.
Next comes the spending decision, which is the actual skill in the hero. Against a group clumped around a point, Claw Whip at 150 Fortune hits everything in its wide cone and tops up her bonus health. Against a single isolated target, Phantom Pursuit at 250 Fortune lets her dash in, strike for 70, and snap back to where she started while taking reduced damage. If the enemy has a hero who keeps locking her down, Chernobog's Crystal in her pocket is worth more than either.
After that she disengages before the enemy team turns on her. Stealthy Catwalk puts her on a wall, Helm of Hades buys a few seconds of near-invisibility, and Ring of Zona can put a solid surface between her and the people chasing her. The point of leaving is the death rule: losing half the bank, with at least 200 gone, is the single most expensive mistake she can make.
Finally, when Calling Card is charged, she uses it to finish rather than to start. Every enemy is revealed, Pounce covers up to 40m with damage reduction, and each takedown adds three seconds and refreshes Pounce. An ultimate that rewards kills is best spent when the enemy is already low and scattered, not at full health behind a shield.
Team-Ups: Black Panther, Spider-Man and a Loan to White Fox
The wiki lists two active team-ups for Black Cat, both introduced in Season 9.0, "The Mystery of Thebes", plus one she enhances for someone else.
Feline Alliance, with Black Panther. Taking damage builds Vibranium Energy; once she has taken 50 damage she can trigger an explosion with an 8m radius that deals 45 damage, knocks enemies back, and gives her a brief speed boost and 25 bonus health. Each enemy hit gives 50 Fortune, up to 100, and it has a 12s cooldown. When Black Panther is on the team, the explosion is no longer gated by the energy threshold and can be triggered at any time.
Binding Ties, with Spider-Man. Turn of Fortune is replaced by Spider-Web Grapple, which has 2 charges recharging at 5s each. Landing it steals Fortune and applies a Spider-Tracer, and hitting a traced enemy with another ability detonates the mark for 45 bonus damage. With Spider-Man on the team, grappling an enemy who already carries a Spider-Tracer Immobilizes them in place; the wiki's table lists that effect as a 0.5s stun duration.
Lucky Loan is White Fox's team-up, and Black Cat is the hero who enhances it, which fits the season the two of them launched together. The wiki also records her quips for both of her own team-ups, including "You know me, Spidey… I like to play with my prey!" when Spider-Man is on the team.
If you are planning a lineup around these, the marvel rivals best team comps page covers how dive compositions are usually put together. Team-up lists change between seasons, so treat this section as a snapshot of what the wiki lists as current.
Costumes, Voices and Comic History
The wiki's costume list for Black Cat (read October 21, 2026) contains five costumes, Default, Coastal Cat, Fatal Weaver, Wild Card and Urban Predator; two recolors, Beguiling Blue and Gilded Shadow; and four chromas, Golden Claws and Pearl Paws for Coastal Cat, and Pink Purr and Purple Prowl for Wild Card. The costume list does not give prices or release dates on that page, so we have not listed any. One date is official: the Version 20261022 patch notes put the Black Cat - Fatal Weaver Bundle in the store from October 23, 2026, 02:00:00 to November 20, 2026, 02:00:00 (UTC), with a Black Cat - Fatal Weaver Emoji Bundle available from October 23. The same patch fixed an issue where Black Cat could occasionally be unable to use portals on walls immediately after casting Fortune's Favor - Phantom Pursuit.
Her English voice actor is Erica Lindbeck, and her Japanese voice actor is Natsuki Matsumura. Two achievements are tied to her: "Cat's Meow" (trigger 3 instant dashes during a single Calling Card) and "Sorry, Sweetie!" (take down an enemy Spider-Man).
On the comics side, the wiki notes her first appearance in *The Amazing Spider-Man* #194 in July 1979, and that her joint debut with White Fox draws on their team-up in *Black Cat Annual* #1 (2021) during the *Infinite Destinies* event. Her in-game personality write-up leans on the relationship with Spider-Man: affection mixed with professional amusement, and a cat-and-mouse game she clearly enjoys. There is also a nice piece of pre-release teasing recorded on the wiki. Her wanted billboard on the Times Square map appeared with claw marks a week before the Season 7 announcement, and her listed height on it was briefly changed to 7' 5", a hint at her Season 7.5 arrival.
